BRAMWELL, WV (WOAY) —Multiple fire departments responded to a fatal house fire in Bramwell on Wednesday afternoon. In addition to one death, two firefighters were injured while fighting the major blaze.
“We made an attempt to go in and battle the blaze and search for the person that lived there at the residence,” said Chief Michael Proffitt, Bramwell Volunteer Fire Department.
While Thanksgiving is usually a time to spend with family and friends, unfortunately this was not the case for one family as tragedy struck when their house caught on fire killing one of the occupants.
Two fire fighters were injured with burns. One of the firefighters injuries were treated on the scene. The second firefighter required hospitalization to treat his injuries. Chief Proffitt stated that both firefighters were able to spend Thanksgiving with their families as they are recovering from home.
“He has burns to his face, hands and to his arms. He was later released from Bluefield Regional Hospital,” said Chief Proffitt.
Volunteer firefighters from 10 different stations rushed to the scene to find the second story engulfed in flames and no nearby fire Hydrant.
“Once a truck was empty, you had to pull it out, back it out, pull it out, back it out and it was a one lane basically a one lane road,” said Chief Proffitt.
WOAY reached out to neighbors in the community for comment and were declined due to the Thanksgiving holiday and the recent tragedy.
This tragic event has changed the way that at least 3 families will celebrate Thanksgiving this year.
