WHEELING, West Virginia (WTOV) — Late Friday evening a volunteer search member spotted a woman in the Ohio River.
First responders and search and rescue crews were later able to locate the body in the river behind the Main St Bank in Downtown Wheeling.
The body was pulled out of the water at the Wheeling Island Marina at around 12:30am.
A press conference was held about an hour later by Ohio County EMA Director Lou Vargo, Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard, and Fire Chief Larry Helms in which they confirmed the body found in the river was 18-year old Page Gellner, for who rescue crews had been searching for nearly seven days.
All of this happened after the vehicle Gellner and 24-year old Michael Grow were in was swept away and crashed into Browns Creek during flash flooding in Triadelphia on Sunday night. Grow was rescued earlier in the week and taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
