Blackwater Falls State Park

Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis has some of the most spectacular views around.
“The views are second to none. If you look over my shoulder you can see that,” said Matthew Baker the Superintendent of the Park.
The park offers more activities in the winter then just hiking and viewing like their sled run.
“We also have a sled run which is become extremely popular. It is the longest sledding run in the east coast,” said Matthew.
But the sled run is a popular event so you may want to show up early to grab your spot.
Matthew said, “that is open Thursday through Sunday so if you want to make sure you get a spot then come early or come on Thursday or Friday.”
If sledding and hiking are not activities you enjoy then you can choose another one of the Blackwater’s many attractions throughout the year.
Matthew said the park “rents boats, paddle boards, kayaks, that type of thing. We have an 18 hole disc golf course so there are certainly things to do year round.”
So why the name Blackwater Falls? It is actually due to the color of the water.
“That is caused by the botanic acids produced by the Hemlock and the Spruce trees in the area. So the water gets that dark color,” said Matthew.
So whether you want to visit this winter or one of the other three seasons you will have a ton of things to do and the best part of this trip is you can get there in less than one tank of gas.
