West Virginia is a state of many treasures, and today, the Beckley VA Medical Center teamed up with Mountaineer Food Bank to host its first Mobile Food Pantry to help the brightest of our treasures – our veterans!
The VA Medical Center Social Work Executive, Portia Parker, said, “Many of our veterans live in rural areas and living conditions may not be the best. The mountaineer food bank is giving us an opportunity to provide food for our veterans.”
This new partnership will help distribute food to veterans in need in the local and surrounding communities.
Chad Morrison, the Executive Director of The Mountaineer Food Bank, told us, “We’ve been working with donors across the country, and across the state,to bring donations in to this event. We’re trying to find better ways to serve the veterans of our country.”
Food banks, like this one, can feed between 100 and 1,000 households, and is sure to get food to these veterans as quickly and fresh as possible. The mobile food bank included a variety of fresh fruits, dairy products, and canned goods.
“We’re hoping to make this a program that’s regular. We’re hoping to do this on a monthly basis in different formats. We want to make sure that we’re providing food to the veterans here,” added Morrison.
