Beckley VA Medical Center Dedicates Medal of Honor Hall

BECKLEY, W. Va. – In order to recognize the heroic sacrifice by our local service members, we are pleased to announce the Beckley VA Medical Center is dedicating a Medal of Honor Hall.  The Hall serves as a memorial to 13 veterans from Southern West Virginia who have earned our nation’s highest military honor.

We are hosting a ribbon cutting on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  A short presentation will be held in the facility’s auditorium prior to the ribbon cutting.  Hershel “Woody” Williams, Senator Shelly Moore Capito, Representative Evan Jenkins, and a representative from Senator Manchin’s office will be on hand for the dedication.

Background:  The Medal of Honor is the United States of America’s highest and most prestigious personal military decoration that may be awarded to recognize U.S. military service members who distinguished themselves by acts of valor.  The medal is awarded by the President of the United States in the name of the U.S. Congress.  There are three versions of the medal, one for the Army, one for the Navy, and one for the Air Force.  Personnel of the Marine Corps and Coast Guard receive the Navy version.
