Beckley Police Warning Residents Of Bomb Threats

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Beckley Police are warning people of bomb threats.

There have been bomb threats reported across the country where a ransom of bitcoin (a form of cyber crypto-currency) has been demanded. The threats are being conveyed via email. Federal, State, and local authorities are aware of these threats. So far, none of these threats has been determined to be credible and seem to be an attempt to extort money based on fear.

We bring this to your attention because at least one local entity has received these emailed threats. If you receive one of these threats we recommend the following:

1) Do not panic.
2) Do not evacuate unless you physically see something suspicious.
2) Do not respond to the email.
3) Do not pay any ransom.
4) Contact your local law enforcement.

If other information becomes available, we will keep you informed.
