Man charged with trying to kill girlfriend by setting her on fire now faces more charges

UPDATE (9/19):  In reference to the previously reported attempted murder on Earle Street, Dwayne Lane has now been charged with the following additional offenses; he was arraigned in Raleigh County Magistrate Court this morning and has been remanded back to the Southern Regional Jail.

Additional Charges:

  • Kidnapping
  • Arson (Third Degree)
  • Arson (Causing Serious Bodily Injury)
  • Gross Child Neglect (Risk of serious injury) (2 cts.)

UPDATE (9/18):  Forty-eight year old Belinda Cox of Beckley was the victim of this incident.  She is still reportedly in critical but stable condition at a Pittsburgh, PA hospital.

Dwayne Lane has been remanded to the regional jail under a one million dollar bond for an attempted murder charge.

According to Cox’as Facebook page, she works at New River Community and Technical College.

Further charges are pending and more information will be released on the morning of 9/19/2017.

UPDATE: The Beckley Police Department has located and arrested Dwayne Michael Lane whom allegedly set his girlfriend, Belinda Cox, on fire. He is being held at the Southern Regional Jail.


The Beckley Police Department needs the community’s help in finding a man who is accused of setting a woman on fire in Raleigh County.

Police are looking for 47-year-old, Dwayne Michael Lane. He is believed to have poured gasoline on a woman, and then set her on fire early Sunday morning in Beckley.

According to multiple posts on social media, the female victim was his girlfriend, Belinda Cox.

Cox was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital and is in critical condition.
