Beckley Police arrest man in connection to a shooting

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Beckley Police make an arrest in connection to a shooting in Beckley back in June.

On June 13, 2020, Beckley Police responded to a shots fired call at 327 Neville Street.  When they arrived, a large crowd was dispersing, and a male subject was injured.   The male victim had several injuries to his face and head.  Witnesses advised that three suspects had stolen items from the victim’s pockets and started to assault him.  The victim was transported to a local hospital and transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center.

Surveillance footage revealed that the victim was violently struck in the back of the head, which caused him to fall face down.  Once on the ground, the victim was repeatedly kicked and stomped on.  James Lawson was seen firing dozens of shots that endangered eight different people.  Lawson eventually was seen fleeing in a white SUV.

Lawson is charged with eight counts of wanton endangerment.  He is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 150,000 dollar bond.
