BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A Beckley man wanted from Virginia is in jail after leading Beckley Police on a high speed chase.
According to court documents, John March Burbach Jr, 19, of Beckley, failed to yield the right of way, while pulling out of the Corner Shop on Johnstown Rd. Burbach looked at the officer and then accelerated at a high rate of speed. After calling for backup, Burbach’s vehicle went airborne, fish tailed, and traveling down the hill, backwards after striking the guardrail. The driver then went over a back wall at the intersection of Beaver Ave and Westmoreland St.
The driver then tried to flee and the officer tackled him to the ground. After a brief struggle, Burbach tried climbing back into the car through the passenger window, when the officer deployed his taser.
Burbach is charged with fleeing with property damage, fleeing on foot, driving revoked, no mvi, and no insurance. He is currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail.
