Beckley Man Arrested For Strangling A Woman

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – One man is in jail for strangling a woman.

On August 6, 2018, Raleigh County Deputies responded to a home where a female could be heard screaming saying a man had a knife.   When deputies entered the home they found Robert Junior Cox, 46, breathing heavily, sweating, and had no shirt on.

Deputies started communicating with the victim and took several tries for her to open the door because she was still in a panic.  The victim was unable to speak with law enforcement several minutes because she was having trouble breathing.

The victim told deputies that Cox places his hands around her neck.  Deputies recovered two knives and a cell phone that Cox took away from the victim, so she could not call law enforcement.

Cox is charged with strangulation, domestic assault, and interfering with emergency communications. He is being held in the Southern Regional Jail under a 10,000 dollar bond.
