Beckley fireworks show back on after city receives corporate donations

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Beckley fireworks show is back on after some worries that it would need to be canceled.

The city had to raise $10,000 from corporate donors to be able to afford the fireworks, and after many local businesses donated, the city is close to reaching their goal. Jill Moorefield with Beckley events says she’s glad to see the show is back on.

“This is really important for people’s mental health. To be able to get outside and enjoy fireworks and have something to look forward to and celebrate our country’s history. I think it’s a really good thing. I’m really happy that we’re able to offer it,” Moorefield said.

Originally, the city’s fireworks supplier required the $10,000 payment in May, and the city wasn’t able to make the deadline. Now after raising the money, the supplier has decided to accept the payment despite the city originally missing the deadline.

The fireworks will be visible from the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center on July 4.
