UPDATE: Armed and Dangerous Escaped Inmate Captured in Ohio

UPDATE: BURLINGTON, OH– A man who escaped from a Welch correctional facility earlier this week has been captured.

Deputies in Lawrence County Ohio were dispatched to a robbery and found one of the suspects to be Charles Wentz. After fleeing from police, Wentz was finally captured.

Wentz escaped from the Stevens Correction Center on Sunday. He had been considered armed and dangerous.


WELCH, WV (WOAY) – On August 5, 2018, Sr. Tpr. Lee from the WVSP Welch Detachment was notified of an inmate escape that occurred from the Steven’s Correctional Center, Welch Holding Facility.

The escapee was identified as Charles Wentz, 39 years old, 6-1, 170 lbs, blue eyes, brown hair.

Mr. Wentz was incarcerated for Fleeing in a Vehicle from an officer, Felony DUI, Grand Larceny, 1st Degree Robbery, Attempted 1st Degree Robbery and 2nd Degree Robbery. Wentz should be considered armed and dangerous.

Christine Maria Rodriguez, 37 years old from Fairmont, WV, was arrested for aiding in the escape of Wentz. Rodriguez was located and arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office based warrants.

Mr. Wentz is still at large and has ties to the areas of Huntington, WV, and Dayton, Ohio. Any information as to the whereabouts of Mr. Wentz can be reported to the McDowell County 911 Center at 304-436-4107, Office of the WVSP at 304-256-6700, or Crime Stoppers.
