The bountiful sunshine this afternoon will give way to snow squalls and falling temperatures later today.
Expect a line of intense snow showers to push through between 6-10 p.m. The initial burst of snow will fall at a heavy rate and cover all thoroughfares with about 0.10-0.50 inch of snow and reduce visibility to less than one-half mile. Additional light to moderate intensity snow showers are expected after the initial burst of very heavy snow and a solid 1.5-2.5 inches of snow is expected along Route 19 and I-77, dropping to almost an inch in the Greenbrier Valley. Higher amounts up to 4 inches are expected in the eastern Fayette, Raleigh, Nicholas County ridges.
Roads will stay treacherous overnight and wind chills will drop to minus-5 to minus-20 degrees (Snowshoe, Mountain Scenic Highway) overnight.
The next threat of snow is Thursday afternoon and evening and then again late this weekend.
