ANSTED, WV (WOAY) – While the cicadas coming back after a seventeen-year hiatus is interesting to many, one Ansted homeowner says she has an infestation of them.
Meredith Gray claims she’s had thousands of cicadas show up on her property since last week when they first emerged. She says she can hear them chirping throughout the entire day, and she’s even worried they’ll make her pets sick.
“The biggest problem for me has been the bugs themselves being around and falling out of the trees when you’re walking under them. But also seeing their carcasses everywhere and we’ve had a problem with our dogs trying to eat them,” Gray said.
The cicadas are expected to stick around for at least another four weeks before returning to hibernation.
