UPDATE: The weather service confirms straight-line winds from a Microburst hit Ansted during the severe weather outbreak on Sunday.
Chief Meteorologist Chad Merrill has the latest forecast:
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY: A few more downpours, perhaps small hail and lightning are expected within 5-10 minute showers and storms through 8 p.m. tonight. The sky will clear and the river valleys will see fog tonight. Deep blue sky is expected Thursday. Frost is likely in the deeper valleys of western Pocahontas and western Greenbrier County between 5-7 a.m. Friday.
DAVIS TO SET NATION’S COLDEST LOW TEMPERATURE FOR FRIDAY: Davis, W.Va., will likely drop to 26 degrees with a hard frost expected, making it the coldest spot in the nation on Friday morning before the sun rises!
WEEKEND/OAK HILL RAIL TRAIL FESTIVAL: The Oak Hill Rail Trail Festival weather will be perfect with deep blue sky and temperatures rising into the 70s. Sunday will be equally as beautiful but more humid.
NEXT WEEK: Warm and humid weather will be the name of the game until Thursday. Severe thunderstorms producing gusty winds look likely late Wednesday or Thursday afternoon ahead of a powerful cold front that promises to drop temperatures back into the upper 60s for highs late next week into early in the weekend.
If you know anyone in Seattle and Portland, a blistering heat wave rivaling that of late June 2021 will set record highs between June 8-13. Triple-digits will increase the load factor for utility companies in the Northwest.
