WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WOAY)- Two former Grand Slam finalists have been added to the already impressive lineup of tennis greats for The 2018 Greenbrier Champions Tennis Classic, which will take place Sept. 15 and 16 at America’s Resort, The Greenbrier.
Kevin Anderson and Marcos Baghdatis will be the men’s representatives for the two-day tennis showcase, joining sisters Serena Williams and Venus Williams, who were previously announced as the women’s representatives. Anderson and Baghdatis will meet in a men’s singles match at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 – which will follow the women’s singles match between the Williams sisters at noon – and will be part of a mixed doubles match on Sunday at 1 p.m. Serena Williams will pair with Anderson to take on Venus Williams and Baghdatis in that mixed doubles feature. Participants for a legends singles match on Sunday at 11 a.m. will be announced at a later date.
Anderson, is currently ranked No. 8 in the world in men’s singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals. A professional since 2007, the Johannesburg, South Africa native, who now resides in Gulf Stream, Florida, has won four career singles titles and one career doubles title. He most recently won the World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi and he was the runner-up at the 2017 U.S. Open, where he lost to Rafael Nadal.
Baghdatis, has been playing professionally since 2003 and has won four career singles titles and a doubles title. He reached as high as No. 8 in the world in 2006, the same year he was the runner-up in the Australian Open after losing to Roger Federer. A native of Limassol, Cyprus, Baghadatis has 21 wins over top 10 players, including beating both Nadal and Federer in 2010.
Weekend Bundle tickets are currently on sale at Greenbrier.com/TennisClassic. A weekend bundle is $175 for Lower Level and $60 for Upper Level and provides access to a total of four matches – the men’s and women’s singles matches on Saturday, Sept. 15, and the legends match and mixed doubles match on Sunday, Sept. 16. Fewer than 100 Lower Level bundles remain, and Upper Level bundles are selling fast.
All matches will be held at the 2,500-seat Center Court at Creekside Stadium on the grounds of The Greenbrier. Built in 2015, this state-of-the-art venue features an intimate setting with breathtaking views of Howard’s Creek and The Old White TPC Golf Course.
