HEWETT, WV (WOAY) – One man is facing charges after he shot a black bear and later died.
On May 16 ,2018 NRPOs Chattin, Miller, Mathis, and Butcher responded to a complaint that someone shot a black bear in the Hewett area in Boone county the evening before.
After a thorough investigation, officers learned that a male subject shot the black bear with his pistol while the bear was standing on his property.
The bear ran into the woods behind the residence approximately 30 yards where it expired.
Officers obtained photographs of the bear and statements from individuals involved and charged the male subject with taking black bear in closed season and shooting within 500 ft of a dwelling.
Prosecution is pending on these charges.
