A Fugitive From West Virginia Is Captured In Tazewell County, Virginia

TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA (WOAY) – A Fugitive wanted in West Virginia is captured by authorities in Virginia on Wednesday.

Today March 7th, members of the U.S. Marshall Service and Deputies with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office assigned as Special Deputy U.S. Marshal Fugitive Recovery Task Force conducted a raid on a location that was housing a fugitive from justice out of Ohio County, WV.

The raid was successful and Michael A. Newell of Durant, OK was taken into custody without incident on charges of Sexual Abuse 1st Degree (Victim under 12 years of age) and Sexual Abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian to a Child. These offenses are alleged to have happened between December 2015 – December 2017 in Ohio County, WV.

Mr. Newell is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority Tazewell Facility without bond and is awaiting extradition.
