FIRST ON WOAY: A Five Month Escapee Has Been Captured In Summers County

SUMMERS COUNTY (WOAY) – A man who escaped Pruntytown Correctional Center back in September has been captured.

Sheriff Deputy Gary Wheeler tells WOAY News, that Michael Anthony Campbell, 36, was found in Pipestem Friday, December 8, 2017 after tips from the public. A Parole officer got a tip that Campbell was in a trailer on Indian Ridge Road located in Pipestem Thursday evening, December 7th. Once arriving on scene Campbell ran out the back door and into the woods. Police took a K-9 but wasn’t successful in locating him.

On Friday, December 8, they received another tip that he was back in the trailer and Summer’s County Sheriff Garry Wheeler, Trooper Frey, and two other assisting Deputies responded. Sheriff Wheeler says, they blocked the two of them blocked the back door and the other two went through the front door of the trailer. Once inside, they found Campbell in a bedroom covered in camo clothing.

Campbell was arrested without incident and was transported to Mount Olive Correctional Center.
