FAYETTE COUNTY (WOAY) – A Fayette County couple is in jail after the execution of a search warrant in the Beckwith area.
At 8:00 pm Friday night the Central West Virginia Drug Task Force executed a search warrant with the assistance of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department. Officers searched this home, located on Crow Hill Road in Beckwith. In the home officers found one of the two adult occupants in the process of shooting heroin. There were numerous uncapped needles lying around the home. A 9 year old child was present in the room with the adult who was shooting drugs.
The two adults, Raymond Heath Shockey (35) and Leslie Rae Shockey (34) were arrested and charged with the felony offense of Child Neglect Creating Risk of Injury. They both were transported to the Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment. The child was released to grandparents, and Child Protective Services was contacted to conduct an investigation.
Task Force Detectives located additional drugs and money in the home, which may lead to additional criminal charges.
“Every day it becomes more apparent of what a grip drugs has on our people” says Sheriff Fridley. “As far as a lot of addicts are concerned, getting a fix trumps everything else in their lives”.
