A Day To Honor Loved Ones That Have Passed

MT. HOPE, WV (WOAY)— While the holidays are a time to spend with family and loved ones, some do not have this opportunity since their loved ones have passed; yet, many families were able to honor their loved ones earlier today.

Hospice of Southern West Virginia hosted its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Crossroads Mall was filled with families and friends to pay tribute to loved ones who have passed with music, tree lighting and the reading of each name.

While names were being read, family members placed an angel ornament on the tree and a moment of silence was held in remembrance.

“It’s a great opportunity for loved ones to be memorialized. A time that they can give back to the organization and for the way we’ve served them during the time. An opportunity in their grief process to reflect on their loved one and memories they may have during the holiday season with their loved one,” said Janett Green, Chief Executive Officer of Southern West Virginia Hospice.

The angel tree will be on display in front of the mall and angels can be purchased and placed on the tree until December 22nd.
