Fayette County Woman Arrested For DUI With Two Children In The Car

MEADOW BRIDGE (WOAY) –¬†Another Meadow Bridge woman has been arrested this week for DUI with her children on board.

At 5:00 pm Saturday afternoon the Fayette County 911 Center received notification of a motor vehicle accident on Meadow Bridge Road (Route 31) in Meadow Bridge. The caller advised that there appeared to be two adults unconscious in the front of the vehicle, with two children in the back trying to flag down traffic for help.

Fire crews arrived on scene and woke up the two adults who appeared to be intoxicated. The two children ages 16 and 11 sustained minor scrapes and scratches, and were transported to the hospital by family members where they are going to meet a Child Protective Services worker. The adult male passenger, John Hancock (56 of Meadow Bridge) was transported to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The female driver, Marcella G. Harper (50 of Meadow Bridge) was arrested for Aggravated DUI-Alcohol With Unemancipated Minor in the Vehicle and the felony charge of Child Neglect Creating Risk of Serious Injury. After being medically cleared from the hospital she was transported to the Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment. A warrant will be issued for Hancock also for Child Neglect Creating Risk of Serious Injury.

“Twice in three days this has happened in our county. People’s priorities need to change” said Sheriff Fridley. “If you have a substance abuse problem, at least don’t put your loved ones and everyone else at serious risk”.
