Officers shoot Raleigh Co. man after he allegedly shot at them during traffic stop

WHITESVILLE, WV — A man from Naoma in Raleigh County is in a Charleston hospital under guard for allegedly shooting at police officers Sunday.

Investigators say 36-year-old James Cantley shot at a state police trooper and a Boone County deputy after they pulled him over near Whitesville. They weren’t hurt but they returned fire and Cantley was shot.

He’s expected to be charged with attempted murder on a police officer.
