2020 State Wrestling Tournament – Day One Update

HUNTINGTON, WV (video courtesy WCHS) – The state high school wrestling tournament is underway, with 32 area grapplers winning their respective first-round matches.

Seven of the area wrestlers advancing to the quarterfinals are from Independence, while Greenbrier East and Greenbrier West have five quarterfinalists each. Fayette County is represented by Oak Hill’s Ashby West and Midland Trail’s Colton Yoder, who both won Thursday.

In the team standings, Greenbrier West is tied for the Class A lead with Doddridge County, while Independence is tied for third in Class AA with Fairmont Senior. Greenbrier East is 10th in Class AAA.
