17-Year-Old Richlands Student Dies In Car Crash

RICHLANDS, VA (WOAY) – Virginia State Police Senior Trooper J.B. Barlow is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Washington County. The crash occurred Nov. 17, 2018, at 2:10 a.m. on Route 19, less than a mile south of Route 689.

A 2007 Toyota Rav 4 was traveling south on Route 19 when it ran off the left side of the highway. The vehicle struck the guardrail, re-entered the highway, overturned several times and struck the guardrail a second time. The Toyota finally came to rest upside down in a creek at the bottom of an embankment.

The driver and three passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. A fourth passenger, a 17-year-old female from Richlands, Va., died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
