Important Information about WOAY-TV and DISH Network

Some of our viewers have asked about receiving WOAY-TV as part of DISH Network’s new local channel service.  Unfortunately, despite some reports to the contrary, DISH Network is not carrying WOAY-TV at this time.

Earlier this month, DISH Network announced that it would begin providing local channels to its subscribers in the Beckley-Bluefield-Oak Hill market for an additional monthly fee.  It is common practice in the industry for satellite companies that sell such “local-into-local” services to compensate the local stations that are part of that service.  Although WOAY-TV has made multiple offers to DISH Network to allow WOAY-TV to join DISH Network’s local-into-local service, we have not yet reached an agreement.  WOAY-TV is committed to negotiating in good faith to bring WOAY-TV’s local news, weather and sports, along with your favorite ABC Network programming, to DISH Network subscribers and we remain confident WOAY-TV and DISH Network will reach a reasonable agreement.

In the meantime, WOAY-TV is already available via DirecTV’s satellite service, http://www.directv.com, as well as from local cable television providers and free over-the-air WOAY-TV 50.  We appreciate our viewers’ patience and understanding and hope to have the issue resolved as soon as possible.
