BECKLEY – A Raleigh County school is moving towards a new future, and that future is green.
Stratton Elementary in Beckley could be torn down in the next several years to make way for a brand new energy-efficient building.
Officials from the West Virginia School Building Authority announced their vision for a new facility that will rely on bonds. Part of the construction plans will include energy and water savings while meeting certain air quality and land use standards.
“Our fourth sustainable green school in the state of West Virginia will be right here at Stratton Elementary,” says Dr. Mark Manchin of the School Board Authority, “But first we must have the voters say yes.”
Officials say the new school will be built on the current site of Stratton Elementary, but no word on where the kids will be relocated during construction.
