BECKLEY - Beckley City Council confirms Mayor Bill O' Brien's appointment for the city's new police chief.

At Tuesday night's meeting, Common Council officially named the city's new police chief after a decision by O' Brien to make the replacement Wednesday. Chief Lonnie Christian will take the place of Tim Deems.

Christian has been with the force for 17 years and says he has worked his way up the ranks. Christian says change can be hard for some people, but overall he has received an out pouring of support.

"Just because there's a change in administration doesn't mean our service will change. we're still going to provide a high calibre of service. In fact, we're going to look for ways to improve that service. We're going to try to integrate more with the community," said Lonnie Christian, Beckley Police Chief.

Christian will be sworn in Wednesday at 10 AM.
