Postal service prices to increase

OAK HILL - Prepare for slight price hikes at your local post office starting next week.

Charolette Bockus, acting supervisor of the Oak Hill Post Office, explained the U.S. Postal Service will raise rates a minimum amount on everything across the board. For instance, the first class stamp will increase three cents to 49 cents.

Bockus said the new rates are being implemented in hopes of bringing the postal service out of debt. “Long term, we're hoping to be able to say that we're out of debt by 2017 but that is just a projection,” she explained.

These new rates will go into effect starting Monday. Forever stamps purchased prior will still be useable.
