Deadline nears for county office candidates

FAYETTEVILLE - The deadline is nearing for folks who want to run for a county office position.

Fayette County Clerk Kelvin Holliday said if you want to be considered for office in 2014, you must file an application in-person or postmarked by tomorrow. This year is also an executive election, which is held every four years.

Folks interested in running must be at least 18 years-old by the time the term starts.

Holliday said Fayette County does not have enough filings for certain positions on the ballot, so he encourages folks to run. “If you've ever thought about starting out somewhere…on a local level, this might be your year to run for office,” he said.

There will be a special opening Saturday at the Fayette County Clerk's office from 8 a.m. to noon for locals hoping to register last-minute.
