RALEIGH COUNTY - Highway fatalities have declined in the wild and wonderful according to officials.
The West Virginia Southern Regional Highway Safety Program said 325 people were killed in accidents on state highways in 2013. That's down from 338 in 2011 and 339 in 2012. The lowest number of fatalities is 315 in 2010. Safety Program Coordinator Lieutenant Paul Blume said that 2 laws passed in 2013 contribute to the latest decline.
These specific laws enforce regulations such as the illegality of texting and driving, as well as the requirement to wear a seat belt, are what helped law enforcement crack down on what could have been fatal mistakes.
