BECKLEY – Traveling with young kids is often an added chore for parents who need to buckle up a car seat. But the job of making them safer was done today in Raleigh County.
The Beckley Fire Department allowed moms and dads to drive in for a proper car seat installation this afternoon.
According to the CDC, child safety seats reduce the risk of death in passenger cars by more than 70 percent for infants. But that percentage only works when the seat is installed correctly.
Officials estimate in nearly three-quarters of crashes involving car seats, the seat was installed improperly. Fortunately for one mother, her mind is now at ease.
“It is the most humongous car seat I’ve ever seen,” says Alisa Hess, mother of a 15-month-old boy who was having a brand new car seat installed. “They said that it was really safe.”
Firefighters donated their time to help out parents and help to prevent unnecessary casualties.
