BECKLEY - A Raleigh County man is running for local office.
Tim Berry, a well-known business man in Raleigh County, is running for an upcoming seat on the County Commission. Berry said Pat Reed has decided not to run again as the representative for District 3, and seeing as that is his district, Berry has decided to run again. He had previoulsy ran against Reed, but feels he has a lot to offer to the Commission now, in regards to new improvements and how to grow the local economy. Berry said he wants to work on infrastructure and building up Beckley, while bringing fresh ideas to the Commisioners. "If Beckley grows, Raleigh County will grow," said Berry.
He also strongly believes in supporting the people who work here for us; "we need to support our business and need to encourage our entrepreneurs to locate here and to invest here. That to me is a big priority," said Berry.
Local business employee, Kristen Blackburn, said, "I would love to see more entrepreneurs come around even if it's not just food, but any kind of art or even if we had different factories or something just to give people a stable job."
The primary election for County Commission, held on May 13th will be an opportunity for registered Democrats to vote, and for Republicans to nominate a candidate if they don't have one appointed before then. The winners of the primary will go on to a general election in November.
