OAK  HILL - A local chapter of the American Red Cross continues to assist families who have been victims of recent house fires.

The Fayette and Nicholas County chapter of the American Red Cross continues providing aid to families in need after many of them lost their homes in recent fires. Organizers said there have been many house fires starting right around Christmas time, but anyone who has contacted the chapter has been assisted. Local fire departments, friends of victims, or the home owner themselves contact the disaster center at the Red Cross for this help. The organization aims to cover the basic necessities; such as providing shelter, food and clothing, but these families also need emotional support. A volunteer is sent to help the families in any way they can, and they say the scene is emotional for everyone.

Executive Director Roseann Berry, said, "we feel like we cant really give them everything they need, but what little support we can do for them they're so appreciative. They cry, they'll talk to you and it's just very emotional for all of us that we can do that for them."

The Red Cross is always accepting donations to go into their disaster fund in order to assist families in the future.
