WELCH - Three McDowell County stores were issued citations after they allegedly sold alcohol to minors.

According to Sheriff Martin West, out of the 16 stores visited, three sold alcohol to underage operatives.  That's a 18.75% buy rate.  Citations were discreetly issued to sales clerks of the stores in non-compliance.  All owners and management were notified and no problems happened during the checks. The McDowell County Sheriff's Department and West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration conducted the compliance checks on Friday.  Funding for the operation was provided by the Governor's Highway Safety Program.
