BECKLEY - A Raleigh County man charged in the death of a two-year-old boy was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional two to ten years for another charge that stemmed from an incident that happened in February of last year.

James Green, 24, was sentenced to life behind bars for intentional and malicious murder in connection to the death of Graydon Morgan.  Green was also given a consecutive prison term for abuse causing bodily injury charges that pertained to Graydon's twin brother, Ezekial.

Officials said he'd be eligible for parole after he served 17 years.  Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Keller said this is by no means a guarantee, and while Green tried to defend himself and asked for forgiveness, Keller said after pleading guilty there was no turning back.

"It's a plea of guilty to premeditated, intentional, malicious killing, and likewise the plea to child abuse causing serious bodily injury is an admission of the intentional beating of an innocent toddler, so 'I'm sorry' means nothing after acts like that," Keller said.

Brandy Smallwood, the mother of the two children, was scheduled to be sentenced next week.
