MT. HOPE – Three New Jersey men are facing felony charges after a late-night drug bust in Mt. Hope on Saturday.

Mukhtar Khalid, 19, Dejhaun Williams, 19, and Larry Avery, 31, were pulled over for a routine traffic stop for speeding along Rt. 19 in Mt. Hope.

Police say they detected a strong marijuana smell coming from the vehicle and requested assistance from a K-9 unit.

Officers say that while they were searching the vehicle they uncovered 1,600 oxycodone pills and $13,000 in cash.

Due to the size of this bust, the Department of Homeland Security is working closely with Mt. Hope police.

Chief T.R. Peal of Mt. Hope Police says this bust is one of the biggest busts he has ever heard of.

“I received a bunch of calls yesterday from other drug task force unit members and they're talking 500 to 600 (pills) have been considered really big busts... and this was over 1,600.”

The State Police, Beckley City Police, and the Fayette County Sheriff's Department all assisted in the bust.

The three men are being held in Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bonds. They face felony charges of intent to deliver a controlled substance, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
