BECKLEY - Christmas season has come and gone, and now it's time to dispose of your piney friend.
Raleigh Co. is helping you do that. The landfill is taking in Christmas trees through the rest of this month.
They collect the trees and plan to turn the pile into mulch by spring.
Beckley Public Works is making rounds to pick up trees curb-side in the city, but if you are outside the city limits you can bring your tree to the landfill, or repurpose it responsibly.
Sherrie Hunter, Director of Education at Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority, says there are a couple of things you can do.
“We encourage people to do the right thing with their Christmas tree, and either put it in a pond, which is great for fish habitat, but locally, you can bring it here to the landfill for free.
The landfill is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
