BECKLEY – Although the warming centers in Raleigh County have not been activated yet, there are options for folks there living without heat to stay warm.

The Pine Haven Center, run by Raleigh County Community Action, offers emergency shelter to 150 people. Anyone living on the streets, or folks who need a warm place to stay, are welcome to go to the shelter.

Even if the shelter reaches capacity, there will be cots available to accommodate anyone who shows up, according to Bobbie Thomas-Bailey, executive director of Raleigh County Community Action. “Being outside for just a very short amount of time can really be dangerous when the temperature is this low, so it's important that they seek a shelter where there is heat,” she explained.

The Pine Haven Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can take people in at any time.
