BECKLEY - Officials advised locals to take precautions to stay warm as the temperatures plummet.

Kevin Taylor, director of emergency services in Beckley, said it is important to have supplemental sources of heat, water and non-perishable foods in your home. Taylor recommended to limit the amount of time you are exposed to the cold weather and to make an emergency kit for your car, which can include blankets, clothing and water.

Emergency shelters across Raleigh County are on standby in case emergencies arise. For more safety tips, visit Beckley Ready’s Facebook and Twitter pages, or click here.
