CHARLESTON - A Christmas tree collection and recycling event had a successful turnout, but doesn't draw numbers as large as last year.
Officials said right around 400 trees were collected Saturday at the Capitol Market in Charleston. During last year's 24th annual event, nearly 600 trees were collected. The Department of Natural Resources said the trees still need to be bundled and put into lakes for fishing season. Anglers who fish in Summersville, Tygart, Burnsville, Beechfork and Stonewall Jackson lakes will be the beneficiaries come springtime.
