BECKLEY - An increase in a specific strain of the Flu virus is on the rise again, but health officials said getting it can be avoided.

Director of nursing at the Beckley - Raleigh County Health Department said that H1N1, commonly known as the Swine Flu, is again on the rise. Health officials encourage anyone 6 months of age or older to get vaccinated not only to protect yourself, but to stop the spread.

The vaccination being offered at the Health Dept. protects against 3 strands of the Flu virus, and is better than the vaccinations in years past, which only protected against 3 strands. Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department personnel said they suggest it to everyone.

"A normal, healthy adult may have the flu and be able to be fine, but if you start talking about the young people, the elderly...anyone with anything compromised, or anyone that just doesn't want to get the flu and suffer the effects of that. It's important to get vaccinated because you could have some serious complications," said Candance Hurd, Director of Nurses.

You can receive the vaccination at the Health Department on Harper Road in Beckley, or at your local pharmacy.
