BECKLEY - A final day for donations will keep a local store open late on the last day of the year.
Goodwill locations everywhere accept donations all year long to keep their stores stocked. The end of the year is especially prosperous for Goodwill because donors hope to receive a break on their taxes. Employees said their main goal is to provide funding to their mission; providing money to train and employ people with disabilities and other special needs. The sales from the stores aid in the mission, donations themselves help in the stores' success and also allow the donor to claim charitable acts on their tax returns.
General Manager, Yvonne Ellison, said, "It benefits the donor in a lot of ways; they get to clean their closets out; get rid of the old and in with the new. Another way is that they can also claim that on their tax receipts. We'll give them a donation tax receipt and they can take that to their auditor at the end of the year and that'll also help. "
The Goodwill location in Beckley will be open 2 extra hours on New Years Eve allowing last minute donors to drop off donations anytime before 9 PM.
