CHARLESTON - A wanted man from Mercer County accused of removing his home monitoring device and mailing it to a federal building is detained in North Carolina.

Michael Cunningham, 51, of Camp Creek, was arrested Sunday night in Rutherford County, North Carolina for assaulting a female, according to officials for the U.S. Marshal's Office in Charleston. Cunningham was wanted for violating his home confinement order.

Officials named Cunningham as a suspect following the discovery of his monitoring device in a ticking package that lead to the evacuation of the Elizabeth Kee Federal Building in Bluefield on September 17.

Federal officials are not pursuing additional charges against him at this time. Cunningham is also facing a probation violation charge in Davidson County, North Carolina. He is awaiting extradition back to West Virginia.
