PAX - A structure fire in Fayette County has left a family of 3 homeless.

Pax and Mount Hope fire departments responded to a house fire Sunday night sometime before 9 PM. Officials said nobody was home at the time of the fire, but a single mother with 2 young children are the residents.

2 cats and a hampster have not been accounted for at this time, and officials believe they were lost in the fire. Donations for the family are being collected at the Mount Hope and Pax fire departments. Organizers of the donations said the family is in need of clothes, and they hope to collect Christmas presents for the children, as those were lost as well.

Assistant Chief of the Pax fire dept. John Lovelace, said, " We call this 'house fire season,' this is the second structure fire we've had in two days. We had one the other night actually with Mount Hope again, in Mount Hope's area for a structure fire."

The State Fire Marshal will be contacted to further investigate what actually caused the fire.
