BECKLEY – Around 94.5 million Americans plan to journey 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holiday season, according to the AAA Travel Forecast.

This marks the fifth consecutive year of increases and the highest travel volume ever recorded for the season, according to officials. Nearly 16 million travelers in the South Atlantic region plan to hit the road.

Officials said warm weather destinations including the Orlando area and the Florida Keys are among the most requested by Beckley area travelers.

The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped four cents from last year to $3.34. AAA's Roadside Rescue Team responded mostly to requests for battery service and tire troubles last year, according to officials.
