CHARLESTON - Seniors citizens are
being warned about a scam involving claims of a free Life Alert device.
Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said callers are told
they could receive a free Life Alert system if they provide a credit card
number to cover the device's shipping, handling and activation fees. He said
consumers should always be on the lookout for warning signs, including callers
who are too aggressive, or callers that avoid answering questions directly and
will not provide the offer details in writing.
Even though a caller may say they are endorsed by an
organization, Morrisey advised consumers should take the time to independently
verify that information first before making a purchase.
