Special needs children hold their Christmas party at Winterplace Ski Resort

Local - 12/23/2013 5:00 PM by Rachael Cardin

FLAT TOP - A Christmas party, complete with indoor and outdoor activities, focused its holiday cheer on special needs children.

The Youth Department of Coal City held its Christmas party this year at Winterplace Ski Resort. A toy giveaway with Santa, refreshments in the Mountain House, along with Games and prizes were just half the fun. After that the kids headed outside to hit the slopes. Many of them were there for the tubing, but snow boarding was offered as well.

This program focuses its efforts on special needs children, either with mental or behavioral issues. Organizers of the department said the kids loved it there. There was no doubt it would be the perfect place to hold the party. Employees at Winterplace said seeing the kids have so much fun is what this season is all about.

Lauren Snyder, Winterplace Marketing Director, said, "it is special to us because we can help out others. With the Volunteer Youth Department, they do raise all of the money themselves and I think that its something that is a lot of work. It's heart-warming because you see the magic in their eyes and that's what Christmas is all about; helping others and seeing the little ones happy, and getting something that they want for Christmas."

The Youth Department of Coal City welcomes special needs children in the community, hoping to add to their program.
