BLUEFIELD - A Christmas toy give-away set up its distribution area on Friday with help from much of the Bluefield Community.
Organizers of the Little Jimmy Christmas party said they have been doing this for years, and pride themselves on having no restrictions to which children can or can not receive a gift bag.
Volunteers have been stuffing Christmas bags with toys, candy, cookies, gloves and hats for children up to the age of 13. There is a 4 day period earlier in December where parents can sign up their children; filling out tickets with their two desired items for Christmas. Volunteers try to get both desired items for the child. On average each bag costed $50 dollars to fill.
Volunteer Don Rice said, "I think it makes their Christmas and you see it on their faces when they come through the line. The first thing they wanna do is look in the bag. I was treasurer of a toy manufacturing company so toys are dear to my heart. I volunteered through the newspaper and our rotary club is very active also.
The Little Jimmy party organizers hope to distribute over 800 bags on Sunday; amounting to apporximately $30,000.
