OAK HILL - Residents in Fayette County are preparing for a big day Saturday when they will distribute toys for hundreds of kids in the area.
Organizers with the Fayette County Christmas Toy Fund stuffed stockings and bagged toys to give away to 650 county kids at the 33rd Annual Fayette County Christmas Toy Fund.
Volunteers are hoping anxious children will be met with a streamlined process and no wait times. The toy fund worked closely with with the Department of Health and Human Resources and local churches to choose families to assist.
"It's actually very rewarding when you get to see a child's face, and they get their toys, and they get to see Santa, and it just helps you to realize what Christmas is really all about -- is giving to those that are in need," organizer Susan Ingram told WOAY.
Preparations for another large-scale toy fund were also underway in Beckley.
Workers with Mac's Toy Fund were at the Raleigh County Convention Center arena hauling in truckloads of toys for the 83rd annual event.
Coats, stuffed animals and food will serve as many as 2,500 kids in Raleigh County alone. Carolers and Santa Claus will accompany the free shopping.
"We've got everybody taken care of, and we've got enough toys to go around, and we know that we've done a good job -- that's when the excitement is," Pete Torrico told WOAY.
